Safety and Security

The safety of the children is our primary concern.  Our facility has a sprinkler fire suppression system, a state-of-the-art fire detection and alarm system and carbon monoxide detectors. We have up-to-date security devices and procedures in place, safe well-maintained equipment for the children’s use, and we exercise the utmost diligence in the supervision of the children’s activities.

Emotional Well-Being

We take great care to provide a warm, loving and wholesome environment in which the children feel comfortable and secure.

Curriculum

Children need to play.  The children are given ample opportunity each day for self-directed play with blocks, housekeeping, dress- up, small and large building toys, puzzles and books.

Climbing_SmallChildren need to run and shout. The children have outdoor recess all year long. Our center has safe, age-appropriate playground equipment for exercising those big muscles, and a large area for running like the wind!

Children need preparation for future learning experiences.  Our curriculum provides valuable daily activities in pre-reading, pre-writing and pre-math which are fun for the children and give them the skills they need to succeed in elementary school.  Children are encouraged to think, reason, question and experiment.

Children need enriching experiences.  Music, art and creative language activities teach skills and concepts, develop a flexible mind, and encourage self-expression and a sense of well-being.  Our curriculum includes sing-alongs and creative movement with piano or guitar, children’s literature, drama and make-believe, and a wide variety of art media and techniques.

Children need to engage with their surroundings. At Hazel Drive we have no screens or electronic devices. The children interact with real objects and use all their senses to learn about the world around them.

Social Skills

Every day the children are given countless opportunities to interact with their peers, to work and play together and to become friends.  The teachers guide these interactions to facilitate the children’s social growth.  We teach good manners and the Golden Rule by modeling these kinds of behaviors and by gentle instruction.

Growing Family and Community

We provide opportunities during the year for parents, children and extended families to come together.  These events are an enjoyable way to facilitate friendships and grow a social network within our school community.

We welcome parents to be visitors in the school and encourage you to participate in your children’s preschool experience.
